Chocolate – the new vitamin?
Soon, many of us may be able to “have our cake and eat it too.” The health benefits of cocoa are becoming more and more well-known, and many experts are even calling for the development of a supplement. In recent days, there’s been a growing interest in developing cocoa extract as a natural source to maintain and promote brain health. Attention is also being called to growing certain dietary chocolate preparations to prevent other age-related neurodegenerative disorders.
Some research shows that the phytochemicals found in cocoa may help protect against many chronic diseases and illnesses. Other findings have shown the relation between cocoa intake and improved cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure and improved blood flow to the brain. If this is true, who would be opposed to a daily chocolate pill?
I know what you’re thinking – what about the fat, the calories? Well, researchers have largely set aside worries about the fat in dark chocolate. Only one of three types of fat found in chocolate may have a negative effect on cholesterol, while the other two may be neutral.
But before we can start popping our chocolate pills each morning, scientists must nail down how the cocoa is processed. Believe it or not, some of the most popular techniques actually strip the cocoa of up to 90% of its’ healthy phytochemicals and nutrients!
If and when these supplements become available – beware that they’re most likely going to be more potent than their candy-wrapped counterparts. In the meantime, reach for your favorite SkinnyMe Chocolate.
